Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge 2021
Position: Retired Air Traffic Controller, Ocean Photographer, Bartender, and Nonprofit Director.
Location: Fernandina Beach, Florida
Rowing Experience: Coached by Jason Cottingham under the direction of Jacksonville University. Also, Paul is an avid Paddler on his Outrigger Canoe, completing numerous 20 and 50-mile paddles.
Endurance Experience: Crossed the Atlantic Ocean from La Gomera to Antigua 2021/2022.
Best Sporting Moment: Paul’s best moment was sitting out in a Surf Line-up in Indonesia with his Son and in Florida with his daughter and just smiling at each other, knowing it just doesn’t get any better!!!
Worst Life Moment: Paul misses not being able to ‘Talk Story’ with his Mom and Dad.
Biggest Fear for The Row: Paul’s biggest fear is getting hurt or sick during or prior to the row and not being able to Row the Pacific Ocean.
Reason For The Row: At the moment I’m rich in time, and I want to give my time to others! I want to make a difference in a Veteran’s life because they make a difference in my life by protecting us every day.
Most missed item at Sea: Fruit Loops and milk.
Who is Paul:
Born in Brooklyn, NY, raised on Long Island, and now a resident of Fernandina Beach, Florida. Paul served eight years in the Marines as an Air Traffic Controller and the next 30- years as a controller in the Federal Government. Paul is a Graduate of the University of Michigan and completed a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma. Paul has four beautiful children two sons and two daughters. Paul is very active in the community; he serves as the Nassau County Representative for the Veteran Fire Watch Program and the St Marys River Management Committee. Paul is a founder of a Veteran Nonprofit Organization. In his spare time, Paul loves to longboard, bodyboard, ocean photography, and bartend on the weekends. Paul’s latest endeavor is a current restoration of an 1872 home in historic Fernandina.
